When is a coupon not a good deal?

After talking to a friend yesterday, I thought I should post this quick reminder. Coupons are great - if used wisely. A coupon is just a tool to help me save money. If I don't need the item, I don't buy it - even if it is a great coupon! I pass those coupons on to others.

Which brings me to this...... what do you do with coupons you don't use? I pass mine on to someone local I see everyday. She passes them on to other teachers. Then I end up getting different coupons back a few days later. I hate to throw coupons away. It's funny to see that something I don't need, someone else can really use.

I've posted my top wanted coupons on the right. If you want me to start a coupon swap page, let me know and I'll post your wanted list too.

CVS stacks coupons!

What does that mean? and why is it good? Stacking coupons means you can use more than 1 coupon for a single purchase. Here's what I mean.....

If you have a coupon from CVS (I found one for $4 off any $20 purchase online last week, my husband found $2 off any $10 purchase in a magazine 2 weeks ago), you can use those in addition to the coupons that print off on your receipt sometimes ($3 off any $15 purchase)

I made a purchase that at first came to $26.
I used the $4 coupon from the internet
+ the $3 off any $15 purchase
+ 4 coupons for $2 each
total $11.00

Then I used my $5 Extra bucks from last week
and $6 from a CVS card I got 3 weeks ago when I had to get a new prescription filled. (see below)

Total out of pocket - $0

How can you get a free gift card from CVS (or Kroger, Walgreens etc)? Periodically there are coupons for new or transferred prescriptions to a different pharmacy. Some people call it pharmacy hopping. For common meds, it is a great way to make money. Read here for help on how to make this work. I've personally gotten $10 at KMart, $25 at Rite Aid and $25 at CVS

Rent movies for free

I talked to someone yesterday who wanted to rent a movie but didn't want to pay Blockbusters high prices. I told them about Redbox. I've told you before but here's more details.

If you have a redbox near you at a McDonalds, Walmart or Walgreens here's what you do. Find a redbox near you.

Pick the movie, enter your name, email address, and credit card.

Then enter promo code - Try any of .You can find more here...

You only need one code per movie and can only use one code per transaction. So only get one movie at a time. and DONT FORGET to RETURN it the next day. If you don't return it the next day, you will be charged $1 for each day you kep it out. I think the return time is 7 pm but it will say on the redbox or the receipt you get in your email box. They don't print out a receipt just send you an email.

If you need something..... just ask!

Today I got my phone/internet bill. I didn't like the figure - at all! So I called them and after talking for a long time to lots of people, I convinced them to give me a promo rate $20 off for the next 6 months + they lowered by bill by $30 for this month!

I wanted more coupons for colgate, softsoap, palmolive etc. so, I called Colgate-Palmolive company and requested coupons and they are going to send me another pack! 1-800-962-2345 The lady said you can request coupons from them every 6 months! (Note to self - mark 6 months from now on the calendar to call again!)

Bottom line..... companies want to keep our business. If that means making an extra call and doing some negotiating - I'm more than willing!

ToysRUs Birthday Club

I signed up all 3 kids for ToysRus birthday club 2 years ago. The kids get a phone call from Geoffrey the Giraffe on their birthday, a $3 gift card for any $3 purchase and a $5 gift card off any $25 purchase. A great deal! Gina at Moneywise Moms tells even more details!

Disney Movie Rewards

Do you collect Disney movie rewards points? I never did, but I love them now. If you buy new Disney DVDs there are reward points inside the case (usually worth at least 100 points). You collect them and enter them at into your account (no credit card needed to collect them). There are rewards at all point levels but the best for us is starting at 550 points. We were able to get a Disney DVD Free by redeeming our points.
We rarely buy new Disney DVDs but by being willing to wait, I was able to find quite a few free codes. Then I bought some points on ebay (for $1.49 I bought 150 points).
If you decide to redeem these points and don't have an account yet, I'd love to get referral credit (disney movie rewards will give me 20 bonus points if you sign up at my invitation). Just send me an email and I'll send you the link asap!

Happy collecting!!!

Free typing program for kids

Thanks to my sons computer teacher, I have just saved our family $10. (and I didn't even need a coupon). My almost 7 year old son loves the computer. At school he was introduced to the home keys on the keyboard and now he really wants to learn to type! We started looking for a typing program to buy off the internet - best price - about $10 total.

Ms. Byrd introduced them to BBC Dance Mat Typing ( a free program on the internet) and Connor is on his way to becoming an expert - well ....almost :-)
