We love to read (and we love rewards too!)

We love reading at our house! This summer there are lots of ways to reward kids for reading.

Local library - At our Danville branch - pick up the reading record, turn it in after you read 20 books, receive a free book (and usually a stack of free coupons for local events)

H E Buddy Reading Club - (open to all Texas residents) - print off the reading form. Once your child reads 10 books, send in the form and they will send your child a free t-shirt!

Barnes & Nobles - Children read 8 books, bring in their list and receive a free book. (Thanks Starr!)

Half Price Books - Kids 12 and under can earn a $3.00 gift card for each week they read at least 15 minutes a day starting June 1. (There is 1 location in Lexington and 2 in Louisville - a ton of them all over the country. Find a store here)

3 free audiobooks for download

Audible.com has 3 free kids audiobooks available. I will download these tonight. We listen to alot of stories on cds when we travel so I love finding these free!

Rapunzel
Rikki Tikki Tavi
The Emperors New Clothes

I haven't downloaded them yet but I don't think you need a credit card to create an account.

I just swapped an old gamecube game for a Wii game!

I hate having stuff sitting around the house that I no longer need or want. What do I do with extra DVDs, CDs, Books, Game system games? I post them on Swaptree.

You post the titles of what you have, make a quick list of what you want and Swaptree does the rest.

(Important hint about swaptree: the more you put on your lists - the quicker you will get a match. I try to add tons of things on my want list even if I only have a few things on my have list. That way the odds of swaptree finding you a match go up much higher! Several of you have joined swaptree but you need to add more things to your list so you will get a swap faster!)
Last night I posted a Star Wars Lego Gamecube game that we no longer needed on swaptree. Today I received an email saying I will receive Super Paper Mario Wii game in exchange. All I have to do is mail the gamecube game (media mail rate only costs about $2.00) and I will go to my mailbox in about a week and get my new Wii game.

Need more information? Read my earlier post about swaptree.

What's so special about amazon.com? We have purchased ink cartridges, wii games, books, our vacuum cleaner, coffee pot, software for the computer, anti virus software, leapster game and more and always had an excellent experience. They offer free shipping after $25 or you can buy items used (often for a very cheap price).

By earning gift cards on Swagbucks we have saved alot of money!

My free Off Mosquito Lamp and Clip-on!

I went to my mailbox this weekend and found a box with a free Off lamp and clip on! Yes - free! Why did I get this free? I am a BzzAgent. That means that I get to try products (and keep them of course) for free! I get to use the product then I give a report back to BzzAgent - the more reports I give, the more opportunities to try new products.

Interested in being a BzzAgent? Send me an email and I'll send you a free invitation. It is of course free. This is my first campaign but I am really excited about it!

I got a $500 Visa Gift Card for only $42!

Have you seen those email ads where you are offered a Visa Card just for answering a question. Then they say "participation required". You may have thought these were always scams. I did 6 weeks of research and discovered that they are sometimes legit BUT you have to follow the requirements exactly!

On March 20, I spent 3 hours and $42. Then I waited and watched for 8 weeks. FedEx came to my house on Friday and delivered me a t-shirt and a $500 Visa Gift card! I was so excited.

These are called online offers and they can be kind of stressful and take some work but it can be very rewarding.

If you are interested in doing the research, here's a link to the website that seems to have almost all the answers. Carrie at Money Saving Methods has done many online offers and has made a lot of money this way. I read her blog daily and really feel confident sending you to her blog.

With my $42 investment here's what else I was able to get:
  • 1 month of Gamefly
  • 4 big bags of decaf coffee (which we would have bought anyway)
  • 250 business cards
  • 2 pair of hose for next winter (which I would have bought anyway)
  • our credit score
  • a pink ring (that I plan to use for a christmas present for my niece who loves jewelry - if you know her....shhhhh - don't tell!)
Just a quick note - These offers should never be considered a way to make free easy money and they should not be done if you can not afford to lose your entry money. I waited till I had earned some extra money from a side job then we decided it was worth a try and it paid off great for us! I plan to do my next offer this next month.

Somebody has to win.... might as well be me :-)

What a great deal! Kerastase Salon is offering a free hair treatment and blow dry service on Wed May 20. Money Saving Mom has all the details. I won't be able to take advantage of this offer because the closest salon is in Lexington but if you are close to a participating salon this looks like a great treat. Warranties are a great deal (esp. if they are free!)

We bought a Black and Decker coffee pot from Amazon.com (with gift cards from Swagbucks and credit card rewards) 8 months ago. One morning it quit working. I called the company, verified the info with my receipt (which I always keep on large purchases). They confirmed that there is a standard 1 year replacement warranty on all Black and Decker coffeepots etc. I sent them a check for $7.50 to cover shipping and received a $40 coffeepot as replacement.

Lesson learned..... keep receipts and always check to see if an item has a replacement warranty before giving up and buying a replacement item.

I also did this with scales I purchased last year. Same thing, I sent money for shipping and saved over $25 on replacement purchase.

I did not register for these warranties when I purchased the items. I just kept the receipts so I could verify the purchase if needed.
