Remember last fall I told you about the Glade Rebate for $5.00? You can do this rebate 3 times! You purchase 3 partipating products, then get $5.00 back from SC Johnson. Well, I've maxed out my 3 rebates but I found Glade on clearance the other day and got it with coupon almost free. So, I'll just send this rebate to my sister. My kids absolutely love to play with their toys. But they do occasionally get tired of some of them. Here's some ways we save money and still have really cool toys! Swapping Toys : Last Fall, my daughter decided that her Loving Family dolls were tired of their house. No problem. My sister had a different Loving Family house. Her daughter was tired of that house. So how did we give both girls a 'brand new house"? We just swapped! Instant new dollhoue! Have you priced a new dollhouse recently? My sister and I both saved a bunch of money and both girls were thrilled! Goodwill : Today we had to take one of the kids to the doctor. Nothing major -but still it involved a no-fun time for my daughter. So I offered a reward - a new toy. No problem for my budget - we went to Goodwill. I splurged and spent $4.77. I bought 2 GI Joe toys (a cool tank and helicopter), 1 pet shop bath tub that really sprays water, 5 stuffed animals - brand new looking, and a Little Einstein plush

Update: I have passed all these coupons on but hang on..... there'll be more. The fun thing about coupons - they just keep coming! I have a gallon ziploc bag of coupons if you are local to Danville and would like to meet me at the library this week. There are probably a few that expire on 1-31 because I've been adding to this bag for about 2 weeks. There are also quite a few coupons from the paper that have not even been cut out. I sometimes end up getting 3 different newspapers so I just cut out the ones I wanted for this bag. Feel free to let me know. Sorry I can't mail these. But I am planning on going to the library anyway, so I'd be glad to share them with you.

It's crazy. I just got an email yesterday telling me that I had been chosen to receive a free copy of Nortons Internet Security 2010! This is something that usually costs about $40. I only had 18 days left on my current subscription so I was already figuring on having to spend that money soon. How did I get it free? I just filled out a request when they offered it. When I use coupons, I try very hard to remember that I am representing a world much bigger than myself - I represent all of you who are using coupons too. That means that if I act nasty and try to sneak coupons past a cashier that aren't valid - I'm cheating you. So..... just something to think about..... Here's a few things I try to always remember: Never use expired coupons. Always make sure my coupon matches the item I'm purchasing. Try to keep a smile and a pleasant attitude toward the cashier. She may have had a horrible day. If she doesn't want to use my coupons, I help her look at it and explain to her why I know it's valid. If she still doesn't want to accept it, I have a choice. I either have her void off the item and keep my coupon for another time or if I really need the item, I can always buy it full price and then go to customer service and show them the coupon and have them review the transaction. This morning was clean out the cabinet day. Money Saving Mom has been doing a full month of only eating from what was in her 'pantry'. I don't have enough stuff stashed back to do that for a full month; however, I do know that I save alot of money by knowing what is in my cabinets. If you are a Verizon customer, you could be getting a 15% discount! Thanks to my brother for passing this tip to me. Log in to your verizon account. Click on the red 'business' button (not the big business button at the top of the page.) That will open another drop down box - click on "employee discount" Enter your zipcode (If it doesn't work with your zip, try adding the city and state) Then you will find a place to enter your work email. A new page will pop up telling you whether you may be eligible for a discount. Then we got an email asking us to confirm the request. A few days later we got an email saying we had been approved for a 15% discount on our bill! If you are on Verizon - its' worth a shot!

Update on the Coupon Train..... The coupon train that we started a few weeks ago has been to several different locations already. At each 'stop', I have been getting feedback of how we can make it more effective. Here's a great idea from Amy: What if we have an email list where we share our want/have list? That way we would only have to give our address info to the people who are actively swapping coupons? We would not be wasting postage by swapping coupons that the people on the coupon train didn't need. What do you think? Would that streamline the process?

Do you have an itouch, kindle or ipod where you can read ebooks? If you do, you might be interested to know that you can check out ebooks from your library - for FREE! Here's the deal: Contact your local library to see if they participate in the 'Net Library' If they do, just sign up and go 0nline to check out a book to your reader. (I think you get to keep the ebook for 3 weeks then it will just deactivate off your reader.) If your library does not participate (my local library does not), then contact the largest library near you. The Lexington Library DOES participate! Since I have a card from the Boyle county library (my local city library), I am able to get a library card from Lexington for free just by going in to their library and signing up! Now I have access to thousands of ebooks for FREE! Have you noticed that I love using the library resources? There are so many ways that our library saves me money!

Do you ever get tired of keeping up with coupons and deals? I have to admit - I haven't yet. I've been what I call 'super couponing' for 1 1/2 years and I am having more fun now than I did when I started! But I have heard from several people recently who are just plain old tired of the deal chasing. They don't seem to have enough time to do it all. If you are wanting to save money but just don't enjoy the whole couponing experience, try backing off and choosing one way to save money and just stick with that for a while. Then add in more as you feel comfortable with that. Saving Money and Looking for Deals is not 'all or nothing' . Any penny you save helps you and your family. I'm having a ball! So don't expect this blog to stop because it's almost as much fun to share the deals as it is to do the deals!

I don't really need more hair conditioner but I'm working on restocking my supply after giving most of it away for Christmas present. So this is a great deal for me today. (Plus I had a gift card and a $5 coupon and extra bucks left over, so the 2 bottles didn't end up costing me anything!) Buy Bioluxe conditioner for 9.99 at CVS It is on sale for buy one get one free. Today I heard about Smile.ly! This is another program where you sign up, they send you products for free. You try them, and then give your opinion. (no credit card of course) Here's the snag...... I don't know anything about it except for what you just read. I have signed up and have just received my first free 'mission' (That's what they call their free product trials.) Sometimes there is a situation where you really want to help others in need but you just can't give financially. The hurricane in Haiti may be one of those times. Here are several options where you can help: Erin at Coupon Cravings has a list of blogs that are donating money to relief organizations in Haiti. All you have to do to help donate is leave a comment on these blogs. It only takes a few minutes but you can help and it doesn't cost you a penny. You can donate some of your swagbucks . They will take those swagbucks and turn them into cash to give to the American Red Cross. One of my piano students is running on Monday to raise money for Haiti. Our local library just did a huge remodel and it is awesome! After almost a month without a library while they were moving back in, we got to go visit our new facility today! Here's how we saved money just by going to our local library! We have been curious about several music groups. So instead of buying them for $15 each - we checked out 3 new release cds. Money saved $45! I needed a new book to read so I checked out 2 books for me instead of buying a book at Barnes & Noble or Amazon. We bought a Thermos for my son for Christmas. It fell out of the refrigerator 2 days after Christmas and broke the top. Without a working top, it's basically worthless. Trash. right? So what did I do? I googled to find the phone number for the Thermos company. Explained what broke to the customer service rep. Asked if they could replace the piece? The lady said....... Sure. Normally we would charge but because of the Christmas season, we'll replace it for FREE! If you need something, it never hurts to just ask!

Another way my family saves money on kids clothes is by selling and buying at local consignment. My friend Melonie has a booth in the Peddlers Mall where she sells new and gently used kids clothes and stuff. I regularly meet her and give her my kids stuff we no longer need. She then takes it and sells it in the booth. I have often gone in and found that particular something I'm looking for at a really reasonable price. Melonie has just started a blog where she will be listing some of the items she has for sale. I am excited about this new way to find more great deals in the Danville Area. She is always looking for new families who want to consign their items. So check it out. You may find some great deals as well!

What is a Coupon Train? It's a way to swap coupons with others. I know I always end up with a huge stack of coupons I can't use. For those of you who don't know, here's the way it works. I put a stack of coupons in an envelope and mail them to the 2nd person on the list. #2 person takes out the coupons they can use. Removes the expired coupons (or those fixing to expire) Adds new coupons! Mails the coupon envelope to #3 person. #3 person does the same. The last person in the train mails the envelope back to #1 and the process starts again. You would need to make sure and mail the coupons to the next person within 1-3 days. Ideally, we will want between 3 -5 people on each train. Anyone interested? Just send me an email and we'll see if we can get the first train rolling!

(I do understand that Cheap is a relative term.) But this is the cheapest way we have found to purchase ink for our printer! If you have bought ink cartridges lately, you know how much ink costs. We have a Canon printer and we always try to stock up on cartridges when we order so we won't have to run out to Walmart at the last minute. Just something I learned recently..... If you need to send money to someone, you have a cheaper, greener choice than writing a check, putting it in an envelope and paying for a stamp. If you have a paypal account and your other person has a paypal account, you can just go to your paypal account, click on 'send money', type in their email address and send $$$. As long as you pay on your end either with your paypal balance or from your checking account, there are no fees - FREE!

If you are planning to sign up for Verizon cell phone service, you should know that Verizon Wireless will reward you for signing up by giving a referral bonus $25 Gift Card to the person who refers you and possibly to yourself for being referred. That's crazy! It just proves that companies are really wanting our business. We just switched to Verizon so I had my brother put my number in on his referral page.
