Glade Rebate still good!

Remember last fall I told you about the Glade Rebate for $5.00? You can do this rebate 3 times! You purchase 3 partipating products, then get $5.00 back from SC Johnson.

Well, I've maxed out my 3 rebates but I found Glade on clearance the other day and got it with coupon almost free. So, I'll just send this rebate to my sister. She should start loving her mail in a few weeks. This is the 3rd rebate offer I've sent her.

Here's the link to the original post listing all the items and brands you can use.

Offer is good till 6/30/10.

How we save $$$ on toys for 3 kids!

My kids absolutely love to play with their toys. But they do occasionally get tired of some of them.

Here's some ways we save money and still have really cool toys!
  • Swapping Toys: Last Fall, my daughter decided that her Loving Family dolls were tired of their house. No problem. My sister had a different Loving Family house. Her daughter was tired of that house.

So how did we give both girls a 'brand new house"? We just swapped! Instant new dollhoue!

Have you priced a new dollhouse recently? My sister and I both saved a bunch of money and both girls were thrilled!
  • Goodwill: Today we had to take one of the kids to the doctor. Nothing major -but still it involved a no-fun time for my daughter. So I offered a reward - a new toy. No problem for my budget - we went to Goodwill. I splurged and spent $4.77. I bought 2 GI Joe toys (a cool tank and helicopter), 1 pet shop bath tub that really sprays water, 5 stuffed animals - brand new looking, and a Little Einstein plush doll that still says tons of different stuff (This is being saved for my son's Feb birthday). We scored big!
  • Keep toys put out of sight: My kids will play with toys as long as the play area is clean. Once it is a mess, you can forget having them play. So our solution? We keep all the toys put away in buckets or baskets. (Sometimes I even use boxes from diapers or ramen noodles to separate toys). When they bring out a new box of toys out of the closet, it's as good as getting something new.

How do you save $$$ on toys?

Local Coupon Offer - gone for now

Update: I have passed all these coupons on but hang on..... there'll be more. The fun thing about coupons - they just keep coming!

I have a gallon ziploc bag of coupons if you are local to Danville and would like to meet me at the library this week.

There are probably a few that expire on 1-31 because I've been adding to this bag for about 2 weeks. There are also quite a few coupons from the paper that have not even been cut out. I sometimes end up getting 3 different newspapers so I just cut out the ones I wanted for this bag.

Feel free to let me know. Sorry I can't mail these. But I am planning on going to the library anyway, so I'd be glad to share them with you.

New Bonus swagcode just released!

There is a new one-time use code in the Bonus offers section on swagbucks. I just went through the process. I think there were only 6 offers that I just kept saying 'skip' or see next offer. Took me about 5 minutes.
  • Go here.
  • All you have to do is VIEW the offers, if you see one you like, you can certainly submit your information, but to get the code, all you have to do is view them all. (I don't ever recommend signing up for something unless you really want the offer! I just keep hitting 'skip' or 'see next offer'. You can find that button at the bottom of the page!
  • Remember that once you get this code, that's it until next Thursday for the special offer code. Coming back and signing up for one of the offers won't get you another code.

New to swagbucks? Read here for more information.

I just got a free copy of Nortons!

It's crazy. I just got an email yesterday telling me that I had been chosen to receive a free copy of Nortons Internet Security 2010! This is something that usually costs about $40. I only had 18 days left on my current subscription so I was already figuring on having to spend that money soon.

How did I get it free? I just filled out a request when they offered it. Remember about 2 weeks ago when I posted that Viewpoints was offering a chance to get Nortons free? I filled out the request and got it yesterday.

Viewpoints is an awesome program that sends out free samples, coupons and occasionally free products. This is one of those times! I sure am glad I filled out the request form when it was offered.

Interested in joining Viewpoints so you will be ready for something free next time around? Click here to join.

Did you request Nortons? Did you get it free? I'd love to hear if you were chosen too!

Kroger $25 gift card Giveaway!

I'm so excited. My Blog Spark and General Mills just sent me a $25 gift card to be used at Kroger (or their family of stores). They sent it to me so I can start earning bonus box tops for my school. We already clip the boxtops regularly and save them for our school. I didn't realize we could earn boxtops without having to even cut them out!

Here's the details. (Then read at the bottom about how you can get a chance to get a gift card yourself!).

It´s hard to believe that the simple act of clipping Box Top coupons has raised over $300 million for our kids´ schools. Now you can earn even more money for the school of your choice because from now through March 18, the Kroger Family of Stores is giving you the chance to get even more Bonus Box Tops.

All you have to do is register at http://www.rewardyourschool.com/ and select the personalized offers that you would like to receive.
Once you register, you will automatically receive 5 Bonus Box Tops just for signing up! You will also receive custom offers for bonus box tops for purchasing participating General Mills products. The offers you select will then load onto your Kroger Shopper Card to be redeemed once you purchase the items. The great part is there´s no clipping! The Bonus Box Tops will automatically go straight to your chosen school. Just remember to scan your card when purchasing the participating items.

Here are the details of the offer:
  • Get 3, 4, or 5 Bonus Box Tops when you buy the corresponding amount of participating General Mills Cereals
Participating cereals include Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Cocoa Puffs, Cookie Crisp Sprinkles, Trix, Reese´s Puffs, Cookie Crisp, Golden Grahams, Kix, Fruity Cheerios, Dora the Explorer, Honey Kix, and all varieties of Cascadian Farm
  • Get 3, 4, or 5 Bonus Box Tops when you buy the corresponding amount of participating Yoplait Kid products
Participating products include Yoplait Kids Yogurt Drink, Yoplait Go-GURT, Yoplait Kids Lowfat Yogurt, and Yoplait Trix Lowfat Yogurt
  • Get 3, 4, or 5 Bonus Box Tops when you buy the corresponding amount of participating Pillsbury products
Participating products include 8 ct. packages of all varieties of Pillsbury Grands! Biscuits, Pillsbury Grands! Cinnamon Rolls, Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls, Pillsbury Flaky Twists, and Pillsbury Sweet Rolls
If you would like to enter this giveaway, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post. Make sure you leave an email address so I can contact you if you win.

Want an extra chance to win? Tell me your favorite deal you have found on this blog! Make that a 2nd comment.

Want one more way to enter? Tell whether you already collect boxtops for your school.

Once again, the winner will be chosen by my 7 year old. He will pick a number. I know its not quite as scientific as a random number generator, but this lets him be involved in the blog - and that's important to me.

Giveaway ends Wednesday, January 27 at 8 pm.

Something to think about.....

When I use coupons, I try very hard to remember that I am representing a world much bigger than myself - I represent all of you who are using coupons too. That means that if I act nasty and try to sneak coupons past a cashier that aren't valid - I'm cheating you.

So..... just something to think about.....

Here's a few things I try to always remember:
  1. Never use expired coupons.
  2. Always make sure my coupon matches the item I'm purchasing.
  3. Try to keep a smile and a pleasant attitude toward the cashier. She may have had a horrible day.
  4. If she doesn't want to use my coupons, I help her look at it and explain to her why I know it's valid. If she still doesn't want to accept it, I have a choice. I either have her void off the item and keep my coupon for another time or if I really need the item, I can always buy it full price and then go to customer service and show them the coupon and have them review the transaction. (I don't usually go this route. I figure that if I lose .40 on this item then I will probably get that money back another way on the next transaction.)
  5. I always have my coupons in hand so the cashier won't have to wait for me to search through my bag to find them - saving them time.
  6. If I have free coupons, I try to write the amount of the item on the coupon so the cashier won't have to go back through the receipt to look for the price.
  7. I hold the coupons in my hand so the cashier knows that I have them to use. If I have a ton of coupons that might be confusing, I even offer them one at a time with each item. Some cashiers prefer that so they don't have to be digging through the bags.
  8. Bottom line - keep pleasant if at all possible.

Want free diapers + $10?

Interested in getting 2 free packs of diapers (size 2T/3T) plus a thank you check of $10.00? Thanks to Arquest Diaper Company for providing this offer.

If your child wears a different size diapers, you should definitely still call. That way they can add your name to the right list and then call you when they do a study on that size!

Here's how:
  1. Call 1-888-342-7372 (x634 for boys; x646 for girls)
  2. Tell them you would like to participate in a diaper study (You may have to leave a message and wait for them to call you back.)
  3. They will ask for your child's weight, age, gender and your address information.
  4. They will send you 2 packs of diapers (I think there are 23 diapers in each pack).
  5. Once you use them, you will answer a very brief form telling about your experience with the diapers. (The questions are mostly check off questions).
  6. They will schedule a quick 10 minute call to get your answers from the form.
  7. Then about 4-6 weeks after the study is complete you will receive a $10 thank you check in the mail.

I have worked with this company (Arquest) many times over the past 2 years and had an awesome experience. Sheila is the lady I have spoken with and she has always been extremely nice. Thankfully though we are no longer buying diapers in our house. (My almost 3 year old is finally out of diapers completely!!!!!)

Have fun! Enjoy your free diapers.

Try It Free! - More rebates available

Try it free rebates! Free products + profit! (sometimes)

I love rebates. I just submitted another Oil of Olay Lotion rebate and am sending the check to my sister. (She's of course thrilled to look for free money in her mailbox.) I have just looked at the rebate tab on the top of the blog. There are a bunch of rebates that are still available. (One quick note: I never spend money just to get a rebate. That wouldn't make good financial sense. A rebate is only good if you need the product and it is a good price. There are several of these rebates that I'm not interested in at all. But I want to tell you about them in case you are looking for that product.)
  • Goodyear Tires
  • Cloudy With a Chance of Meatball & Spot Shot
  • Oil of Olay
  • Pert for Men
  • SC Johnson (Glade....)
  • Snow White & Hefty paper products
  • Kelloggs - for toy rebate (I have still not seen these but I'm watching).

Here's how it works.....

  1. Buy the product (Make sure you keep the receipt! All rebates require you to mail in your receipt. You MUST follow the rules exactly on each rebate form or you will NOT receive your money. If I am planning to use a rebate, I try to buy the product in a separate transaction so I can mail in the receipt and not lose it for anything else I purchase that same day)
  2. Use coupon - if available
  3. Mail in the receipt and form
  4. Wait about 6-8 weeks
  5. Get a check in the mail (they will send you a check for the full price of the item not the amount you paid. If you used a coupon, that is just bonus $ you saved!)

Have fun! and enjoy your free products.

Saving $$$ by knowing what I have...

This morning was clean out the cabinet day. Money Saving Mom has been doing a full month of only eating from what was in her 'pantry'. I don't have enough stuff stashed back to do that for a full month; however, I do know that I save alot of money by knowing what is in my cabinets.

If you can't find it, you don't know that you have it and you have to buy it again. Big money waster.

So my money saving tip for this morning? Find out what all is hidden in the back of your cabinet and use it.

I think we'll have chili for supper tonight. I had forgotten that I have 2 cans of chili powder and enough red kidney beans to make chili for a month.

  5. Then you will find a place to enter your work email.

  7. Then we got an email asking us to confirm the request.
  8. A few days later we got an email saying we had been approved for a 15% discount on our bill!

Coupon Swap (coupon train update)

Update on the Coupon Train.....

The coupon train that we started a few weeks ago has been to several different locations already. At each 'stop', I have been getting feedback of how we can make it more effective.

Here's a great idea from Amy: What if we have an email list where we share our want/have list? That way we would only have to give our address info to the people who are actively swapping coupons? We would not be wasting postage by swapping coupons that the people on the coupon train didn't need.

What do you think? Would that streamline the process?

Is Couponing All or Nothing? No way!

Do you ever get tired of keeping up with coupons and deals? I have to admit - I haven't yet. I've been what I call 'super couponing' for 1 1/2 years and I am having more fun now than I did when I started!

But I have heard from several people recently who are just plain old tired of the deal chasing. They don't seem to have enough time to do it all.

If you are wanting to save money but just don't enjoy the whole couponing experience, try backing off and choosing one way to save money and just stick with that for a while. Then add in more as you feel comfortable with that.

Saving Money and Looking for Deals is not 'all or nothing'. Any penny you save helps you and your family. I'm having a ball! So don't expect this blog to stop because it's almost as much fun to share the deals as it is to do the deals!

Try Me Free - Bioluxe conditioner at CVS

I don't really need more hair conditioner but I'm working on restocking my supply after giving most of it away for Christmas present. So this is a great deal for me today. (Plus I had a gift card and a $5 coupon and extra bucks left over, so the 2 bottles didn't end up costing me anything!)

Buy Bioluxe conditioner for 9.99 at CVS
It is on sale for buy one get one free.

Then submit for a full rebate on the 9.99!

You can only do one rebate per household, so you can send the second try me free rebate to another address (maybe a mom or other family member?)

You must have the little tag found on the conditioner to submit the rebate. When I left CVS today, there were about 4 more tags on the bottles.

Several ways to help the people of Haiti

Sometimes there is a situation where you really want to help others in need but you just can't give financially. The hurricane in Haiti may be one of those times.

Here are several options where you can help:

Erin at Coupon Cravings has a list of blogs that are donating money to relief organizations in Haiti. All you have to do to help donate is leave a comment on these blogs. It only takes a few minutes but you can help and it doesn't cost you a penny.

You can donate some of your swagbucks. They will take those swagbucks and turn them into cash to give to the American Red Cross.

One of my piano students is running on Monday to raise money for Haiti. She's planning to raise $2500 by running 25 miles. Here's her link to help support her run!

The other option that is prayer......

How do you get Wii games cheap?

Good question! If you have a Wii, you know that games are crazy expensive! We have a Wii and we refuse to pay full price for games. Here's some options that we have tried. (Warning: Some of thes options take time, but we really are trying to teach our kids that the things they want sometimes take time to earn.) I know this is a long post so feel free to skim read :-)

1. Gamefly This is a program almost identical to netflix. You sign up for a membership and choose your level. The cheapest level gives you one game at a time. You play it for as long as you like (no late fees) then mail it back in their prepaid envelope. A few days later, you get the next game in the mail. You choose the games you want to try and put them in a queue. They send you whatever is next on your list.

You get a free 10 day trial. The cheapest level is $8.95 for the first month for 1 game at a time. Then after that it goes to $15.95 per month for however long you keep the membership. There is no contract and you can cancel anytime.

We used this service for 2 months and really liked it but after that we decided we wanted to save that money per month and use it for other stuff.

2. Swaptree: With swaptree, you list all the wii, xbox, etc games you have. Then you make a want list of all the Wii games that you want. As soon as swaptree finds a match, you get an email asking you if you want to make a trade.

(If you are already using swaptree to get movies and music, you need to rethink this option) This service works awesome for wii games (and other game systems too) if you work it right. We have 2 swaptree accounts in our house. On my account we list all DVD's, CD's and books that we want - NO Game system games! On my husbands account we ONLY list the games we have to swap and the games we want.

This is really an easy way to get games but it may sound kind of confusing. If you have questions, I would love to help you figure it out. Just email me.

3. Swagbucks: If you have at least 45 swagbucks, you can redeem them for $5.00 at Amazon.com. (This is one of those options that may take you a little bit of time.) Then we use those Amazon gift cards to buy our wii game. For example: Lego Star Wars the Complete Saga wii game is $16.99 on Amazon. The Lego Indiana Jones is $17.00. Since Amazon offers free shipping on any order over $25.00, all we have to do is earn 6 Amazon gift cards and we have 2 wii games for less than $10.00 By waiting a few more weeks, we can earn another gift card and get them almost free!

Here's where it gets good with Amazon........ After we buy a game, if we don't like it or get tired of it after a few months, we sell it back on amazon.com and make most of our money back.

For example: the Lego Indiana Jones wii game that we just bought for $17.00 is still selling used for $12.49. That means I'll still be able to get almost $13 back out of a wii game!

Confused????? Don't be...... I'm no rocket scientist and I am able to do stuff like that regularly. I'll be glad to give more details if you are interested.

Hopefully this will help give you some ideas on how to get your new wii system some games to go with it!

Saving money on media by using our library!

Our local library just did a huge remodel and it is awesome! After almost a month without a library while they were moving back in, we got to go visit our new facility today!

Here's how we saved money just by going to our local library!

We have been curious about several music groups. So instead of buying them for $15 each - we checked out 3 new release cds. Money saved $45!

I needed a new book to read so I checked out 2 books for me instead of buying a book at Barnes & Noble or Amazon. Money saved - I have no idea because I haven't bought a brand new book in ages.

The kids each checked out a DVD - money saved - at least $1 each if we went to Redbox, way more if we bought a brand new movie at Walmart.

The kids each checked out 2 books. Money saved - I know new books cost several dollars at least at Walmart so .... you do the math here.

My husband loves to listen to audio books in the car while he commutes to work. So he picked up a new audio book. These things are expensive to buy so this is a huge savings for our family.

Lesson remembered: Why pay money for something when you can just check it out of your local library?

Have you visited your library recently?!!!!!!!???

Quaker Oatmeal - .88 per box!!!

Kroger has Quaker Instant Oatmeal for $1.88 per box. Use this $1.00 coupon to make each box only .88 each!

We bought a Thermos for my son for Christmas. It fell out of the refrigerator 2 days after Christmas and broke the top. Without a working top, it's basically worthless. Trash. right?

So what did I do?
  • I googled to find the phone number for the Thermos company.
  • Explained what broke to the customer service rep.
  • Asked if they could replace the piece?
  • The lady said....... Sure. Normally we would charge but because of the Christmas season, we'll replace it for FREE!

If you need something, it never hurts to just ask!

More cheap photo prints for new members

Kodak is offering new members 50 free photo prints for FREE - you just pay shipping. It is 1.99 for 50 prints. I just uploaded my pictures!

Can you tell I'm behind on my pictures right now? I still haven't printed the kids Halloween pictures yet. I've got to get going.

Selling and Buying at Local Consignment

Another way my family saves money on kids clothes is by selling and buying at local consignment. My friend Melonie has a booth in the Peddlers Mall where she sells new and gently used kids clothes and stuff. I regularly meet her and give her my kids stuff we no longer need. She then takes it and sells it in the booth. I have often gone in and found that particular something I'm looking for at a really reasonable price.

Melonie has just started a blog where she will be listing some of the items she has for sale. I am excited about this new way to find more great deals in the Danville Area.

She is always looking for new families who want to consign their items. So check it out. You may find some great deals as well!

The coupon train is up and running.....

The first coupon train is starting in the morning mail. I'll be mailing out 100 coupons to another reader who will then mail a pack to the next one...... Want to get in on the fun? Email me and I'll add you to the train!

Hopefully this will let some of us share our unused coupons with others who can use them.

Another way to pass on unused coupons is to send our expired coupons to a military base. I'm working on the details and will let you know as soon as I get an actual address. I do know that military bases can use expired coupons for at least 3 months after our expiration date. Anybody ever done this before????

Free printable calendar

Here's a link to print a monthly 2010 calendar. I ordered several free calendars and they haven't come yet..... so I'll just print my own real quick. I'm sure not going to go buy one :-)

I'm thinking about starting a Coupon Train

What is a Coupon Train? It's a way to swap coupons with others. I know I always end up with a huge stack of coupons I can't use.

For those of you who don't know, here's the way it works.
  1. I put a stack of coupons in an envelope and mail them to the 2nd person on the list.
  2. #2 person takes out the coupons they can use.
Removes the expired coupons (or those fixing to expire)
    Adds new coupons!
Mails the coupon envelope to #3 person.
  3. #3 person does the same.
  4. The last person in the train mails the envelope back to #1 and the process starts again.
  5. You would need to make sure and mail the coupons to the next person within 1-3 days.
  6. Ideally, we will want between 3 -5 people on each train.

Anyone interested? Just send me an email and we'll see if we can get the first train rolling!

How to get ink cartdridges for cheap!

(I do understand that Cheap is a relative term.) But this is the cheapest way we have found to purchase ink for our printer!

If you have bought ink cartridges lately, you know how much ink costs. We have a Canon printer and we always try to stock up on cartridges when we order so we won't have to run out to Walmart at the last minute. We just placed an order tonight that will save us money for the next semester at least.

Here's what we did:
  • We logged into Mr. Rebates (If you are not a member yet, you will receive a $5.00 bonus just for signing up. As soon as you reach $10.00 they will send you either a check or deposit the money into your paypal.)
  • We did a search for 123InkJets.com. Once we found the ink store, we clicked on the link that says shop here. It said we would receive 20% off our order in our account.
  • Once a new screen opened showing us 123Inkjets.com, we entered the brand of our printer on the right side. There is a drop down menu where you choose your brand, model etc.
  • 123Inkjets is offering a promo for free shipping automatically if your order reaches $55. For us, it made good sense to go ahead and order $55 worth of ink so we didn't have to pay the shipping charge. That is just up to you.
  • We found 10 ink cartridges we needed and put them in our shopping cart.
  • At checkout, we entered a coupon code that we found from searching online - FROSTYINK worked great and gave us an instant 15% percent discount!
  • To pay, we chose to use our paypal account so we didn't even have to use our credit card. But you may choose to pay with your credit card.

Our final results:

  • 10 cartridges purchased - These are NOT refilled cartridges or a ink refill kit! We have tried those in the past. It was a huge mess and they did not work for us. Some printers will even void the warranties if you use refilled cartridges.) These are regular ink cartridges but not mainstream brands. Our printer even requires a little chip inside the cartridges and these still work excellent. We have used these cartridges for over a year and had no problems.
  • $114.99 saved. (more after the 20% rebate comes through from MrRebates! That usually takes about 2-3 months. Update: I just got an email saying I would receive $11.49 in rebates back to my Mr Rebates account!!!!!) Our cartridges regularly run between $15 -$22 each at Walmart or Office Depot.
  • $56 spent - $11.49 rebate from MrRebates! So after the rebate I will have spent $45 for 10 ink cartridges!!!

I only offer this post as an alternative to buying your ink from the regular stores (Walmart, Office Depot) and paying full price. You may find that ink is a place you want to stay brand loyal. All I know is that this works really well for us!

Thanks to Heather for this great deal alert!
There is a new code for See Here photo announcement cards: 50 photo cards for free when you use this code freecards-3

Free way to send money

Just something I learned recently.....

If you need to send money to someone, you have a cheaper, greener choice than writing a check, putting it in an envelope and paying for a stamp.

If you have a paypal account and your other person has a paypal account, you can just go to your paypal account, click on 'send money', type in their email address and send $$$.

As long as you pay on your end either with your paypal balance or from your checking account, there are no fees - FREE!

$25 gift card for Verizon sign up!

If you are planning to sign up for Verizon cell phone service, you should know that Verizon Wireless will reward you for signing up by giving a referral bonus $25 Gift Card to the person who refers you and possibly to yourself for being referred. That's crazy! It just proves that companies are really wanting our business.

We just switched to Verizon so I had my brother put my number in on his referral page. He should get a $25 gift card in about 6 weeks and it says that I may get one too!

So....if you are planning to switch to Verizon (or have signed up within the last 90 days) and don't have anyone else to give your referral credit to....... hmmmmm, you could email me and I'll be glad to add you so I could the gift card and you could to. (How's that for a little advertising? :-)
